Three reasons we love living in East Side Austin

East Austin is a rapidly growing district of Austin natives and newly-appointed residents alike. Colored in murals and soaked in history, the East Side is home to a diverse and eclectic array of people and small businesses. From art galleries to hair salons, bars to bodegas, fine dining to food trucks, sex shops to churches, and coffee shops galore; East Austin covers the interests of all and maintains the status quo that is #KeepAustinWeird. Since the whole area is easily walkable and bike accessible with front row access to the river, it’s no wonder many are fleeing to live in East Austin.

As an “East Sider” myself, it’s hard to reduce the many reasons I love living in this area into one concise post. At this moment, I am sitting at my favorite coffee-shop-turned-late-night-bar that I walked to and am sitting outside in 70 degree weather (in December) writing this post. I digress.

Shaded patios, food truck parks, breweries, and world-class BBQ can be found throughout East Austin. If you are looking for a Saturday night adventure or Sunday Funday destination, East Austin has places to devour a pound of brisket, sip on bottomless mimosas, or satisfy your drunchies (drunk munchies) with a plethora of tasty food trucks. Some of our favorite spots include:

Culture and the arts permeate the air on the East Side with once-a-year collaborative events like E.A.S.T. (East Austin Studio Tour) where artists open up their studios or galleries for public viewing, craft and holiday markets, and trickle down events associated with SXSW in music venues like the North Door, Hotel Vegas, or the Fair Market. There’s also museums catered to diversity like the African American Heritage Center, the Texas Music Museum, and the George Washington Carver Museum.

Fine dining, local bars, yoga studios, hair salons, and everything in between leaves no shortage of things to do in East Austin. Apartment complexes tower over the new and improved Plaza Saltillo which contains all your national icons like Whole Foods, Target, and Chipotle mixed in with our local favorites like Juiceland, Hopdoddy, and Brew & Brew. Down the block lies East 6th St where you’ll find a bevy of notable late-night bars and restaurants.

A couple of amazing places you have to try while during your stay with us are Lazarus, Whistler's, and Via 313 (best pizza in Austin!). In addition, Los Comales may look a little intimidating, but the food is pretty good and the margs are great! In addition, the Mexican Market nearby has delicious fresh salsas you’ll certainly want to try!

Narrowing down the best of the East Side is difficult because all the small business owners and creatives put their heart and soul into everything they do. Discover East Austin yourself! We are now leasing units at the 7East and Corazon Apartments.
